Voice Assertiveness Course
Some people who go to Voice in Greenwich asked if they could have some training on how to be more assertive.
- People said that they feel that it's easier to say things at Voice because we know we won't get told off. People said that it takes lots of practice and courage to speak up if someone is trying to talk over you.
- We decide together what we wanted in the training. Then we asked people when they wanted it and where they wanted it to be held.
The training was held at two different places. One at Sherard Road and one at Abbey Wood Road Community Team.
- The training started on 19 February and finished on 19th March and ran for mornings.
- At the end of the course everyone got a certificate and we celebrated with wine and chocolates.
During the course we looked at our emotions and talked about the way we can react when were not listened to.
- We talked about how we can make this better.
- We talked about the communication and body language.
- We played lots game and had lots of fun and laughs.
What we learn from doing this training is ………
- That people with a Learning Disability still get spoken to in a rude way because they have a learning Disability and people think they can get way with it, and they do
- That some people are still not give proper choice.
How to get what you want and make people listen without getting cross or being to quiet.
- To give people time to speak.
- How important it is to listen to someone properly and here what they are saying and not what you would like them to be saying.
- We really enjoyed this training and plan to do more in the future.
Why not take a look at the work we did during the training? We made a massive poster for you to look at.
